Storage Instructions for our Premium Vanilla Beans
Proper storage is essential to maintain the freshness, flavour, and aroma of your premium vanilla beans. Follow these simple steps to ensure your vanilla beans stay in perfect condition for as long as possible.
1. Keep Vanilla Beans Airtight
- Store your vanilla beans in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag to prevent them from drying out.
- Ensure the container is clean and free from any strong odours that could affect the vanilla’s natural aroma.
2. Avoid Refrigeration
- Do not refrigerate vanilla beans.
- Refrigeration can cause the beans to dry out and lose their rich, supple texture.
3. Store in a Cool, Dark Place
- Place the container in a cool, dark location, such as a pantry or cupboard, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- The ideal temperature for storage is between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F).
4. Inspect Regularly
- Check your vanilla beans every few weeks to ensure they are not drying out or developing mould.
- If the beans seem slightly dry, wrap them in a damp paper towel, place them in an airtight container, and leave them for a few days to rehydrate.
5. Use Within Two Years
- While vanilla beans can last up to two years with proper storage, their flavour and aroma are best when used within the first 6–12 months.
- Always label your container with the purchase date for reference.
Quick Tip for Long-Term Storage
If you don’t plan to use your vanilla beans within a few months, you can:
- Make homemade vanilla extract by soaking the beans in alcohol (e.g., vodka or rum).
- This preserves their flavour and creates a versatile ingredient for baking and cooking.
By following these guidelines, you’ll ensure your vanilla beans remain fresh, aromatic, and ready to enhance all your culinary creations. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at vanilla.beans.cy@gmail.com.
